A decent week’s work October 27, 2007

Lately, this is what I would consider a decent week’s work in my crafty life:

I got about an hour and half of weaving on my napkins done (I need to have them finished by December!?!?!? EEEK! must weave more, must weave more, must weave more . . . ).

I got one of two taggy blankets sewn for a special order (YAY! Someone’s actually gonna PAY me!), and the other one is just waiting for me to get my bottom over to my mom’s to raid her ribbon stash. Once I have both done, I’ll take pics (I’m planning on this for this weekend).

I started felting a sheet of felt. It’s being done one a base of wool plaid fabric, with different shades of green and brown on it, using both needlefelting and wet felting techniques (but not at the same time, rusty needles are bad!). Once I have it to the desired stage of feltiness (it’s already “felt”, but I want it thick and stiff, so I still need more felting and more layering), I am going to cut leaf shapes out of it, and well, I’ll just say I got totally inspired by Betz White. Yes, I have acorn caps, and yes, now I finally know why I have been saving them for a couple of YEARS now! :) I love her layered t-shirt tutorial, too . . . but that’s for another week . . .:)

I also made some ghosts for my front porch, with my daughter. No pics, yet, but once I have them set up, with pumpkins to keep them company, you know . . .:)

And I tried to start turning the tide in my garden. I have sadly neglected it the past few months (too hot in Houston to pull weeds!), so I have the task of coping with what I have sowed – weeds, grass creeping into my beds, plants gotten straggly and overtaking their areas. It’s bad. But I went out this morning with determination, and came back in with sweat stains. :) I chopped most of my pineapple sage down to prep it for transplanting somewhere more congenial (where this beautiful HUGE bush will look nice, and not take up valuable real estate in my raised bed!). I also finally took down the trellis and dessicated cucumber vine (seriously, parts of it turned to dust as I pulled it off). Same with the strawberry cage, which hasn’t protected my strawberries since they died back in July, but has been quite a pleasing thing for my thyme to weave in and out of. And the lime balm got cut WAAAAAY back. Now you can see that I have some lovely rosemary in there and that my chamomile is coming back. Oh, yeah, and there is dirt, too. Not just pineapple sage, lime balm and weeds. I did some weeding, and some cleaning up, and watered everything a couple of times (it has gotten really cool and dry here just this week.

So, that’s what I got done. Hopefully next weekend I will have some nice pictures for you. :)
